I really love
to travel to foreign countries. Unfortunately a lifetime isn't enough to see
the whole world. But I do my best to visit some of the beautiful corners of the
world. I have made many really great voyages across Europe and North America. But
the best of all was the trip to Australia in spring 1995. With a stop over at
Hong Kong and Macau I reached Adelaide. From there on I drove along the coast
via Melbourne, Sidney, Brisbane, and up to Cairns. Besides the cities worth
seeing the nature offers a great variety of spectacles: dreamlike coastal
strips (for example the "Twelve Apostles"), cool rain forests in the
south, tropic rain forests in the north, the indescribable Great Barrier Reef,
the strange kinds of animals, and, and, and,... After 6.150 km (about 3.850
miles) by car I took a domestic flight to the red heart (because of ferric
oxid) of the continent. The Ayers Rock ("Uluru" in the language of
the Aboriginies) and the nearby Olgas (named by their discoverer, a German
explorer, after his queen, Olga of Wuerttemberg) were fascinating by their
special charm. The flight back home brought interesting stop overs in New
Zealand (Auckland), Hawaii and Los Angeles. The four days on the Hawaiian
Islands Oahu and Maui were especially a highlight of this journey. In addition
I flew one time around the world and experienced the same effect as the hero in
Jule Verne's novel "Around the World in 80 Days": I have seen the sun
rising and going down one time more as the other people in the world, who
stayed at home. So I could have one day two times after flying across the date
line!

I took the picture below shortly before sunset at April 4th in 1995. As a
compressed JPG-file it isn't as beautiful as the original photo. But I hope it
will give an idea how wonderful this land can be!
